Preparing your body for Detoxification – Purvakarma

If you are planning to detoxify, it is essential to prepare the body first. In Ayurveda this PRE CLEANSING process is called Purvakarma. Here is an example of a purva karma plan.
PURVAKARMA: Preparing to Cleanse and Prepare the body for detoxification
Purpose: Lightening up the digestive load and mobilizing toxins <ama> from other parts of the body to the Gastro intestinal tract which will be cleared out during pradhan karma or main detoxification.
Herbs: Day 1 to 3 :Triphala morning with warm water. Hingvashtak or digestive churna with each meal.
Day 4 to Day 7: Continue Triphala and Hingvashtak. Take 1 tsp of flaxseed oil every morning.
Tea: Black chai with lots of ginger and a little saffron – if available. And, tsp. ea. Coriander, jeera powder & fennel seeds, with 1 tsp. grated ginger with lemon and honey in warm water. Drink a few sips every 10 minutes. It will keep energy and metabolism running. Take coconut water as well.
Time: 7 Days
Strictly Avoid: Maida or unbleached flour, potatoes, rice, corn, alcohol based drugs like cold medicine, chocolate, sugar, dairy, breads & fried food.
Diet: Replacing one meal with vegetables or fruits. (steamed, stewed)
Great Vegetables: Beetroot, Carrot, Broccoli, Spinach, Radish, All Greens, Peppers,
Starting Day 5, Day 6 and Day 7
Treatments: Medicated Ghee or Mustard oil Abhyanga Massage with neem and sesame, ginger oil, teatree oil massage. Dhara Treatment with herbal full fat milk.
