Ayurvedic Head Massage, also called Shirobhyanga has many uses. It can be used with panchakarma during purva, or pradhan karma. According some ancient Ayurvedic texts, people would get their head, shoulders, face and chest massaged with special herbal oils.
In India, it is still done. According to modern studies, groups who were suffering from headaches, migraines, insomnias were given Shiroabhyangam in combination with herbs like Brahmi. The results were 74% spectacular
Ayurvedic Vaidyas say that head therapies like Shirodhara, Head Massage and activating marma points on the cranium can lead to a healthier balance of mind and body and help in the imbalance of CNS. So, children affected with autism, people with chronic stress, eye issues and falling hair can especially benefit.
Shiroabhyanga involves a lot of energy work as well. I found this on the youtube. Very interesting.
